Heroes VI - Juggernaut

Last one of this series. I had lots of fun with the muscles, which brings me to probably try and do more anatomy studies of muscle and tendons.
I'm quite pleased with the feet and the horns.

Heroes VI - Lacerator

I didn't enjoy this one too much. The spikes were a little bit of a pain, but the tendons and muscles once again were lots of fun, as the shadows, although they were quite hard to tell from the concept art. Cool-looking creature, but not my favourite at all.

Heroes VI - Succubus

I am nto happy with her body, but I enjoyed the hair a lot... I like drawing hair. The wings, which normally are lots of fun, are alright, but nothing too spectacular. I changed the face to make her look a little bit more intimidating. She also belongs to the Hell race.

Heroes VI - Maniac

Quick movements. I didn't want to spend too much time in the chains. The muscles were incredibly fun to draw. This creature is from the Hell race.

Quick sketches

So this last Christmas (I know it´s been a while) I decided to check the concept art book I have from the game "Heroes of Might and Magic VI" searching for inspiration. In the past I've searched in this franchise for inspiration as well and my drawing of the Mermaid neutral creature has gotten me lots of views in this blog. So I thought to try something new and instead of trying to perfectly copy the drawings, I would do quick sketches of them changing what I felt I liked better some other way. That's what gave birth to the drawings you'll see in the upcoming posts.
By the way, do not buy "Heroes VI". It is a horrible game that has given me lots of headaches and the technical support team haven´t been of any help either. Play "Heroes IV", which is my favorite, or even "Heroes V" is OK, but do not even attempt it with 6. The animation is good and the design of the creatures looks neat, but that's all it's got.

Shattered Gargoyle

Another drawing done while I should be studying... (I passed the exam anyhow).
This one has sort of a story behind it. It always starts with the face, and for some reason this time I just wasn't able to picture her eyes. I put a blindfold and worked around it sketching easily her upper body and right arm. Once again I was unable to see her left arm, so I started working on her legs. When I had the whole sketch done I started going into detail... and decided I wanted her to be naked and be some kind of gargoyle... so I started to do sharp and thick lines... and then, when I was doing the right thigh I decided to do a scratch... and then on the chest, and face and arm. Suddenly I couldn't draw her left arm because she had none, I started to draw cracks and pieces of her missing, so were her eyes and everything.
I'll some day come up with a better and more detailed story, but basically this was a gargoyle meant to protect villages from evil. They are immune to destructive magic because of their skin, but one sorcerer used magic to change the nature of her skin from marble to thin porcelain. She's no longer solid stone, but a porcelain carcass that can not sustain her own weight. Her hair and wings are not made of stone or otherwise she would not be able to fly so easily or have free movement, so that's why they are not broken. Everything else is colapsing, startign with her eyes than the sorcerer broke with a blow to her face with his stick.

Le Manoir des Murmures - Muñoz · Tirso · Montes

We have here an example of great Spanish professionals that have to develop their work in other countries because we do not know how to appreciate them correctly or our industry is not yet developed enough (and probably will never be if we continue this path). This graphic novel was first published in France, although these three creators come from Spain.
"Le Manoir des Murmures" ("La Casa de los Susurros" en castellano) was extremely enjoyable to read and astonishing to a visual level. I loved not only the character and creature designs, but also the scenes and colors chosen to tell this amazing story that was exciting from beginning to end.
Jan and Sarah had such a beautiful friendship I've been wanting to draw something like this since I read the story for the first time.
These are rough sketches based on some scenes from the graphic novel (some are more "creative" than others) and I tried my best to be faithful to Tirso's creations while giving it my style and doing the rearranges that I found fit.
Check out Muñoz's work, who's a writer known by movies such as "El Espinazo del Diablo" (Devil's backbone) and others, and both Tirso and Montes, who are the artists painting and coloring this graphic novel.
I really ask you to read this graphic novel... or at least go check it out. Fantasy and mystery join hands in a dark and yet colorful story that will make you read the whole thing in one stand.

Defeated warrior

Her sword just got shattered in pieces... she's been kicked to the ground after her last big battle.
I enjoyed making her armor look weary and, as you can see, trying different positions for her.
Although in a surrender mode, I still think there's some hope left for her... or that's what she thinks, one last chance with the pieces of her sword as a small knife... who knows?

Struggle between science and fantasy

So in this page that I found today you can see my struggle: while studying to be an Engineer, I'm always wondering if I would be better off as an artist. This strange fairly-looking sketch was made while studying electricity (as you can see for the math). Both the math and the sketch are rough and were done fast... and none are outstanding, but they are pretty good taking into account the time I took to practice any of them
(I got the highest grade in my class with a 85% in this subject while studying for it only for two weeks and the drawing isn't bad either and took me five minutes)

Found old drawing... what was I thinking?

Unfinished drawing of what appears to be a girl training and trying to look like a Chun-Li rip off. You can guess I didn't finish this one... Although I have no idea where I was going with her clothes, I like the "unique" design... and the legs are looking good.

I was bored in class today, so I did this in an hour of presentation. Yes, it's a demon eating pop corn and a weird guy with a katana giving her a drink

The Last Battle of a Warrior Angel

Unfinished drawing of an angel warrior in her last stand. She was supposed to be missing one of her wings and be holding two big swords while standing on a pile of corpses. Whenever I find a drawing too old for me to be able to finish it properly, either because I no longer have the spirit or it isn't my style anymore, I try to come up with the date, but I don't even bother to sign it.
In this case I can even see my flaws: her head is too big for her body, some wounds aren't drawn properly, I wasn't sure about the design of her clothes... etc; but I like the design, the wings were coming up pretty decent, I think I was trying to make her look Japanese (not sure)...
The thing is that I really believe that if this was meant to be a good drawing, I would have finished.
Still, I hope you like the idea.

Happy Halloween!

I did this while listening to the song "How Strange" by Emilie Autumn. She is some kind of mixture between a witch and a scarecrow (don't ask me why I know she has something of scarecrow in her because I just know). I made her in 15 min hearing the song over and over. That's why the details are a little fast and the hands are just kind of a sketch: I didn't want to take the time to draw them because they were no important for the drawing itself. Besides, I think this way they fit her better. I think she is pretty and scary in a way. Probably she would give nightmares to little kids, but I like her.

Queen Mermaid

The English translation to what it's written next to her is "High Priestess of the Sea Elves". She's from a book I'm writing. I wanted her to look as poisonous as possible, even if she looked a little overloaded. I made her in a hurry because it was made during break I did while studying for "Material Science 2"

Harlequin

I've always wanted to make a drawing of a broken porcelain doll dressed up as an harlequin. This one is actually a little sketch I made when studying for "Material Science 2" I believe. I'll do it again some day, but I put it up in case it serves of inspiration for someone else.

Little Sketches 2012

When I get bored studying sometimes I don't do a big drawing, but little sketches. Candles, flowers (usually roses) and glasses mostly, but also geometric forms such as cubes may appear. I usually keep them when I finish a semester while throwing away all the pages I filled while studying.

Ghost trapped

I know I was studying while doing this one, but I can't remember for what. I think it was made on around the same date as the girl in the cross. Obviously it was inspired by The Corpse Bride.
She's trapped in that graveyard because of the cross on the top. That's all I know. (The moon was just a little touch of humour).
